Making her debut in the United
States as a concert soloist, Ma-
falda Favero, prima donna so-
prano of La Scala, Milan, and
one of Europe's best known ar-
tists, will be presented at the
fourth subscription concert of
the Detroit Svmnhonv Orchestra
in Orchestra Hall, Thursday
night, Dec. 1. Sfiss Favero also
will appear at the orchestra's
second Friday matinee concert,
Dec. 2, at 2:30 o'clock. Maestro
Franco Ghione, with whom Miss
Favero has sung numerous times
in Italy, will conduct both con-
certs.
Miss Favero, now engaged in
her first American tour, is re-
ported as the "find" of the an-
nual season of the San Francisco
Opera Company, with which or-
ganization she sang recently in
revival, of "Martha" and 'Don
Pasquale." She is scheduled to
make her debut with the Metro-
politan Opera in New York Wed-
nesday night, Nov. 30, following
which she will leave immediately
for her local appearances.

JOINT ACTION
At the quarterly meeting of
the Jewish Community Council
of Detroit held Wednesday eve-
ning at the Philadelphia-Byron
Hall, deegates of organizations
endorsed the request of the of-
ficers for joint action in defense
of Jewish rights under the guid-
ance of the General Council of
the four major national bodies—
American Jewish Congress, Amer-
ican Jewish Committee, Bnai
Brith and Jewish Labor Com-
mittee.
Reports were submitted at this
meeting by Simon Shetzer. presi-
dent, who outlined the recent
work in protest against the po-
groms in Germany; Dr. Leo M.
Franklin, who supplemented Mr.
Shetzer's report; Philip Slomo-
vitz, chairman of the public re-
lations committee; Judge Charles
Rubber, chairman of the arbi-
tration committee; Frank Hoff-
man, chairman of the liaison
committee for the anti-Nazi boy-
cott.
The meeting was addressed by
Maurice Samuel, eminent author
and lecturer, who was in the city
on a two-hour visit. Mr. Samuel
urged support of the movement
for the Palestine Pavilion at the
World's Fair in New York and
described the proposed Jewish
exhibit as an important political
step to present to the world an
outline of Jewish accomplish-
ments in Palestine.

Silverstein, however, refused to
sign unless he had assurance that
