Mrs. Albert Feldstein, execu-
tive secretary of the Zionist Or-
ganization of Detroit, reported
on Thursday that the community
is responding enthusiastically to
the appeal for support of the
movement through the Balfour
Ball. The response, she stated, is
an indication that Detroit Jews
realize the important work that
is being done through the Zion-
ist office at 1044 Penobscot Bldg.
As an instance of accomplish-
ments, she pointed out that the
mass demonstration at Cass Tech-
nical High School last Sunday
afternoon would have been im-
possible without the guidance
from the Zionist office. To con-
tinue this work, the Balfour Ball
must be an even greater success
than last year, Mrs. Feldstein
stated.

Mr. Lifschitz, who was popular
in the Oakland district where he
was connected with the Ahavath
Achim Synagogue, was for 10
years a member of the staff of
the United Hebrew Schools of
Detroit. He was a Talmudic
scholar of note, a recognized
Maskill, versed in modern He-
brew literature, and an excellent
pedagogue. All his friends, teach
era, students, 'parents, and mem-
besr of the congregation remem-
ber him not only as a scholar,
but as one of the kindliest per-
sons. He was always ready not
only with a kind word of com-
fort and consolation, advice and
gpidance, but with all there was
in his possession, and was always
ready to give to the needy, in
the true Jewish traditional man-
ner of utmost modesty.
Many of the members of his ,
family are connected with edu-
cational and Zionist activities.
The following are the members
of the family of the late Jacob
R. Lifschitz: Mr. and Mrs. I. M.
Hertz, Mr. and Mrs. I. Sendler
of Flint, Sol Lifschitz, Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Rosenzweig, Sam
Lifschitz, Mr. and Mrs. M. Bru-
der of Cleveland and Mr. and
