The Jewish Community Center
will present one of George Bernard
Shaw's finest comedies, "Arms and
the Man," on Thursday, April 28,
at 8:30 p. m. Director Vernon
Haldene has given the presentation
much care and attention in the
selection of the cast as has Art
Director James Doll with the period
costumes and scenic effects, which,
with the Bulgarian locale, gives
splendid opportunity for colorful
costuming and scenery.
The romantic opera, "The Choco-
late Soldier" by Oscar Strauss,
which delighted theater-goers some
years ago, was said to have been
inspired by this comedy of Shaw's,
which takes place in Bulgaria in
the year 1885, at which time that
country was at war with Serbia.
This will be the first time that
"Arms and the Man" has been
presented at popular prices, tickets
now being sold at 25c to Center
members and 35c to non-members.
The general public is urged to see
this fine performance of an out-
standing comedy by one of the
world's most popular playwrights.
Tickets may be reserved by calling
the office of the Jewish Community
Center, Madison 8275.

however, indicate that there is
hope for recovery if the patient be
given proper medical care and

Rabbi Silber is alone in Detroit,
his family being in Poland. Upon
the invitation of his former "lands-
leit" of Slonim and Byalistok re-
siding here he visited our commu-
nity several times during the last
few years and finally made ar-
rangements to settle here perma-
nently with his family. There are
many people in the local Jewish
community who know Rabbi Silber
and who are acquainted with his
career in the old country as an
outstanding Talmid Chochom and
philanthropist, and a committee
has been formed to assist him in
the present emergency and help
him in time of need.
Jacob Soherman, 8667 12th St.,
treasurer of the committee, will
appreciate the receipt of voluntary
contributions to the fund which is
being solicited in order to provide
medical treatment and care for
Rabbi Silber. Friends and ac-
