Center Symphony Orchestra will
feature the annual spring concert
of the Jewish Community Center's
Mothers' Clubs on Sunday eve-
ning, April 17, at 8:30 o'clock at
the Community Center Building,
Woodward at Holbrook.
The Center symphony orchestra
is under the direction of Miss
Sadie Cooper. The operetta, which
will be sung in costume in appro-
priate settings, has been directed
by Mrs. Joseph M. Markel.

Alma Phillips will be remem-
bered for a number of public ap-
pearances in Detroit, having sung
a principal role in a special per-
formance of the opera "Carmen,"
and later as soloist at the Fox
Theater, where she was hailed as
"Detroit's Deanna Durbin." Ru-
binoff, famous radio violinist, and
Ben Bernie, the "Old Maestro,"
complimented Miss Phillips upon
her work and predicted a bril-
liant future for her.
Following her engagement at
the Fox, Alma Phillips was called
to New York to take advantage of
a scholarship awarded her to
study with Fausta Cleve, one of
the vocal coaches affiliated with
the Metropolitan Opera. She is
returning to Detroit for the Ilal-
evy concert.
