Six Concerts Scheduled by
Symphony for This Week

Max Levy's Pupils
Lauded by Critics

Facing its busiest period of the
entire season, the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra is scheduled to
Play six concerts during the com-
ing week.
Friday night, March 4, the third
program in the series of recital-
concerts will be played in Orches-
tra Hall with Vitya Vronsky and
Victor Babin, youthful Russian
due-pianists, as soloists.
The Border Scottish Choir, II.
Whorlow Bull, conductor, will be
featured at the eighth "pop" con-
cert, Saturday night, March 5,
and will offer a group of nine
songs by composers including
Bach, Gibbons, Vaughn Williams,
Geoffrey Shaw and Granville Ban-
tock. Ilya Schkolnick will conduct
this concert because Kolar has
been honored in having been
asked to conduct the Thomas Gar-
rigue Masaryk Memorial orches-
tra concert to be played in Car-
negie Hall, New York, Monday
night, March 7. Speakers at the
memorial, to be sponsored by the
United American Czechoslovak
Societies, will include Secretary
of State Cordell Hull, Dr. John
II. Finley of the New York Times,
Rabbi Stephen S. Wise and Prof.
James T. Shotwell.
"Fun" is the title of the fifth
and last pair of Free Concerts
for school children to be played
by the orchestra under Kolar
Tuesday and Wednesday after-
noons, March 1 and 2, in Orches-
tra Hall. Music by Herbert,
Haydn, Ochs, White and Dukes
will be played.
The fifth and last of the Young
People's Concerts will be played
at 10:45 a. lit., Saturday, Starch
5, with Kolar as conductor.
Thursday night, March 3, the
orchestra will play a concert in
the Frolic Theater, Midland, Mich.
