KOHUT FOUNDATION TO PUB-

LISH PROF. MARX'S VOLUME

In connection with the recent
celebration of the 60th birthday of
Prof. Alexander Marx, famous
Jewish historian and bibliograph-
er, the Kohut Foundation, estab-
lished by the late Dr. George Alex-
ander Kohut in memory of his
father, Rabbi Alexander Kohut,
will publish a facsimile edition of
a manuscript of the Talmudic
treatise "Abedah Zarah," which
Prof. Marx has prepared and pro-
vided with a critical introduction.
This valuable manuscript was writ-
ten in Spain in the year 1290, and
thus becomes an important witness
to the text of this portion of the
Talmud.
Prof. Marx's 60th birthday will
also be signalized by the publica-
tion of a volume of his collected
papers on Jewish history and lit-
erature. The cost of publication
will be met by gifts made by a
number of Prof. Marx's friends
and admirers.

ment seems pleased with its work,
Dr. Emanuel Gamoran of Cincin-
nati, educational director of the

was caught chatting about some
recent materials issued by his de-

sendrath of Montreal at a meet-
ing in Chicago, The Union has just

Emphasis was placed this week
by the Vaad Hakashruth on the
fact that all signs will henceforth
be changed every month, in order
to assure that the butcher shops
under this board's supervision are
conducted in strict accordance with
kashruth.
It was stated this week there are
reports of sonic butchers attempt-
ing to duplicate these signs. In the
event that any one is discovered
to be tampering with signs, he will
be prosecuted, the Vaad warned.
At a Melave Malke of the Vaad
Hakashruth held last Saturday
evening at the Beth Tefilo Emanuel
Synagogue, representatives of a
number of congregations were
present and pledged their whole-
hearted cooperation in the work of
assuring strict adherence to kash-
ruth.
