Will Your Home Be
Their Home?

If you arc a home owner you
probably have to deal with a mort-
gage. Payments are fairly easy
to make now, but if you should
die before the mortgage is paid oft, your dependents might
have a struggle to make the payments. For what is, in effect,
merely a alight increase in the interest rate you pay, you can
obtain a Great-West policy which will clear off the mortgage
for your family if the emergency should ever arise.

Collector of Internal Revenue
Endorses Palestine Efforts In
Letter Accompanied By A Check

Efforts for Palestine reconstruction, and especially the
work of the Jewish National Fund, the Palestine land-redemp-
tion agency, received encouragement this week from an out-
atanding Detroit non-Jew.
Giles Kavanagh, collector of internal revenue for the
Michigan district, a promi-
nent Catholic and a leader
in the Knights of Columbus,
has written his endorsement
of the Palestinian movement
in a letter to William
Hordes, co-chairman of the
organizations and synagogue
committees of the Jewish
National Fund. Ile also
sent the fund a check,
through Mr. Hordes, towards
the Huleh redemption fund.
His letter follows:
"My dear Bill:
"It was indeed a pleasure
for me to sit and listen to
your story of the beautiful
work done by the pioneers
in Palestine.
"It is remarkable. that in
the present mad situation
all over the world, that
there is still a group of
people who are willing to
sacrifice everything for the
future of their people. Your
idea of the National Fund
—that is, buying up the land
in the name of all the Jew-
ish people, is a remarkable
experiment. To me it sounds
very good when every man
can say 'This is my land'—
GILES ' KAVANAGH
such a beautiful idea de-
serves the support of all the people.
"I personally know that the Americans of Irish descent
have greatly helped the liberation of Ireland and I think it
is up to American Jewry, who have resources, to do the same.
"Enclosed find my contribution, however small, and if it
should add to your moral support, I shall be well rewarded."

this shot that echoed round the
world.
Let me, merely for reasons of
historic accuracy, disclaim any
connection with this Baltimore
labor group action, But I have
been considerably concerned
with its results. For certain
reasons, Joe McCurdy and his
Baltimore laborites rendered a
service far beyond anything
they ever suspected. The dan-
ger now is that the labor stand
will be weakened by sentimental
public pressure.
'SOCIAL APPEASEMENT'
DOCTRINE
In fact, President Green of
the American Federation of La-
bor painfully cries out his com-
b pieta absence of objection to
Duke and Duchess. Ile and my
Baltimore labor friends are now
asserting that it Is only against
Charles Bedaux, author of an
especially vicious stretch-out
system, that labor has spoken.
To an American tour by the
royal couple under other aus-
pices, organized labor claims It
has no objections. In fact, it
announces it would cooperate
with it.
I advise my labor friends to go
slowly with these ardent pro-Duke
and Duchess speeches and their
offers of cooperation. The current
issue of the picture magazine Life
tells of the Duke's espousal of
Charles Bedaux's doctrine of "so-
cial appeasement," an alleged
form of economic fascism. The
files of the Chicago Tribune of
Oct. 22, 1937, reveal from its
Paris correspondent a very il-
luminating story about this "so-
cial appeasement" business. It
would be a grand thing, wouldn't
it, for American labor to cooper-
ate in an "investigation tour" of
a man who seems already to have
become an evangel of a form of
economic fascism.
Ugly Rumor.
There are some who say that
Edward's and Wallis' regal recep-
tion by the Nazis was no mere
accident. And they point out that
it was the Nazi labor dictator who
was their constant guide. There
are some other rumors — even
more ugly and Insistent—that it
was Wallis Warfield Simpson's
Nazi sympathies which really
caused the effort to get her out
of England and precipitated Ed-
ward's abdication, One story to
this effect was told to some folks
by a prominent and liberal mem-
ber of Parliament who, never-
theless, could not sanction its
authoritative publication because
of international repercussions,
The American public Is en-
titled and indeed ought to know
a great deal more about these
things before it allows its senti-
mental predilections to make it
the victim of any sort of Nazi or
fascist propaganda. Has Edward
Windsor really become the apostle
of a form of economic fascism, as
Life alleges? Was the now Duch-
ess of Windsor really so much the
confidante of Von Ribbentrop and
other Nazis that she made herself
persona non grata to the British
government? Sentimentalists
though we Americans are, we cer-
tainly don't wont romance to blind
our eyes to fact. And American
labor, avowedly anti-Nazi and an-
ti-fascist, especially ought to make
sure of the wisdom of helping to
sponsor the social and economic
investigations of the Windsors.
