Keidan Addresses
Membership Rally
of Hebrew Schools
by

At the last meeting of the mem-
bership campaign of the United
Hebrew Schools, held at.the home
of Dr. Albert E. Bernstein, Judge
Harry B. Keidnn was the princi-
pal speaker. Ile said in part:
"Much has been said about the
importance of connecting our
youth with the synagogue, but
what does the synagogue with its
services and rituals mean without
the proper background, without
education? It is only through
education that our prayers be-
come meaningful, that the syna-
gogue is brought closer to us."
In connection with the study
of Jewish history, Judge Keidan
said that it is only through an
understanding of our past that
we become imbued with the spirit
of justice and righteousness as
conceived by our people. He
further stated that only through
the study of our language, our
history and Torah do we learn to
appreciate the treasures of our
people. Ile concluded his address
by urging the members present
to give Sam Schaflander, chair-
man of the membership campaign,
their full co-operation.
Harry Cohen, president of the
schools, and Mr. Schaflander
spoke briefly, outlining the details
of the work.
The next meeting of the mem-
bership committee will be held
Tuesday evening, Dec. 1, at the
home of Julius Berman, 60 Bur-
lingame.
