end THE LEGAL CHRONICLE
Harold Silver, director of the
Jewish Social Service Bureau. has
issued the following statement
endorsing the work of the Eva
Prenzlauer Maternity Aid:
"The Eva Prenzlauer Maternity
Aid is having its annual donor
luncheon next Tuesday, Dec. 1,
at the Statler Hotel. This is the
principal means by which this so-
ciety raises its annual budget and
I am glad to be-speak for it the
support of the members of the
Jewish community.
"This society is an organiza-
tion for Jewish women who from
the very beginning realized that
it would be futile to attempt to
cover the entire area of need in
the Jewish community, and made
no attempt to spread themselves
thin giving a dollar here or •
couple of dollars there. Instead
they looked over the situation and
selected • problem that did not
seem to be well-cared for under
existing facilities. This was the
confinement of expectant mothers
in hospitals. At the present time
the Board of Health does not
hospitalize needy confinement
cases except where the home con-
ditions are extremely bad, or the
situation complicated from the
medical point of view. Under such
conditions it is inevitable that
there would be a group of women
who in the judgment of the Board
of Health might be delivered at
home, but where for economic or
family reasons hospital care is
more advisable. It is this marginal
group that the Eva Prenzlauer
Maternity Aid has elected for its
special field.
"This organization also realized
what is generally accepted in
good social work practice today
that a proper investigation re-
quires not only kindness and sym-
pathy, but also technical prepara-
tion and a knowledge of social
resources. For this reason the so-
ciety arranged with the Jewish
Social Service Bureau to make
social investigations and recom-
mendations for their clients. The
Eva Prenzlauer Maternity Aid
has the right to accept or reject
the recommendations, but they
have not rejected any report
made by the Jewish Social Bu-
reau. By means of this co-opera-
tion high quality of service is as-
sured to the families. Other prob-
lems that may exist in the family
unit are discovered and treated
and all duplications avoided. A
special arrangement with the
Woman's Hospital provides care
at the rate of $30 per confine-
ment. During the past year 17
women were confined at the cost
of this organization.

ROYAL COMMISSION NOW IN SESSION
(CONCLUDED EEGS! PAGE ONE)
Youth Aliyah, Hadassah's new-
est project has evoked great in-
terest among the Jewish women
of Detroit. Many of them have
expressed this interest by making
special contributions to Youth
Aliyah in addition to their sub-
scriptions to Hadassah's Roll of
Honor. Part of each $16 Roll of
Honor subscription is imme-
diately allocated to Youth Aliyah.
These additional donations aid
Hadassah in its efforts to get as
many children out of Germany
As possible and settle them in Pal-
estine.
It costs $360 for two years,
or $15 per month, to maintain
and educate a German child in
Palestine. In this period, he is
taught to be independent and as-
sume his share of the communal
life in Palestine.
bIrs. Joseph M, Welt, chairman
of the Youth Aliyah committee,
has expressed the hope that the
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah,
through her committee. will be
able to raise enough money to
maintain 10 German children in
Palestine.
Additional contributions f o r
this project, which in being di-
rected in Palestine by Miss Hen-
rietta Szold, may be sent to Mrs.
Welt; Mrs. Sidney J. Allen, chair-
man of Iladassah's 1936 Honor
Roll campaign; or Mrs. Maurice
Landau, president of the Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah.
The following have made con-
tributions to Youth Ali y a h
