The Liggett & Myers Tobacco
Company, manufacturets of Ches-
terfield cigarettes, has set a pace—
and a precedent for thinking in
terms of their radio listeners in-
stead of their pocketbook. This
broadcaster, whose network is one
of the largest and whose annual
expenditure for advertising mounts
into the millions, has looked at the
warm-weather needs of listeners
and has tried to satisfy those
needs. The result is a program
which has been called, "The best
summer show on the air." You
are already familiar with it as
"Andre Kostelanetz and his dance
orchestra through the courtesy of
Chesterfield cigarettes."
The advertising campaign which
is now appearing in this newspa-
per as well as many others for
Chesterfield cigarettes is strong
and plain advertising which will
make you realize why Chesterfield
has something which is far differ-
ent than any other cigarette you
have ever smoked. And that is
"taste."
The advertising emphasizes the
milder and better tobaccos used in
Chesterfield and the blending of
expensive Turkish tobacco with our
own American tobacco in the cor-
rect proportion to bring out Re
finer qualities. This copy appeal
explains the genuine meaning of
the characteristic Chesterfield slo-
gan, "Outstanding for Mildness
and Better Taste—They Satisfy."

Pogrom Planned
For September

NEW YOR K. — (WNS) —
Boasting that weapons and forces
are ready, the first pogrom
against American Jews is threat-
ened some time in September by
James True, of the James True
Associates and America First,
Inc., of Washington, D. C., ac-
cording to revelations quoting
True which appear in the current
issue of the New Masses. The
New blesses discloses it has

mittee and the Superintendent of

ton, D. C., with the demand for
steps to stop the planned pogrom
as well as future activities of
anti-Semitic organizations such as
True's which incite to violence.
Fingering a revolver, True in
his Washington office told Porter
Niles, author of the New Glasses
article, as related in the maga-
zine: "We're getting set! We're
preparing for September. When
we have the pogrom, not even our
'pet Jew' will stay alive. And he
repeated that the massacre will
come 'around September'."
