On Sunday, April 19, at the
Oriole Terrace, the first officers of
the newly formed Detroit Post
No. 135, Jewish War Veterans of
the United States, will be installed
at a public ceremony by the na-
tional officers from New York and
Pittsburgh.
At the meeting held last Wed-
nesday at Jericho Temple, a com-
munication from national head-
quarters stated that Abraham Kra-
ditor, commanderdnichiet, and
Harry H. Schaffer, senior vice-
commander-in-chief, with several
national officers will come here to
conduct the cetemonies.
The Jewish War Veterans of the
United States wan organized in
1898 out of a desire on the part of
Jewish Veterans who had served
in the Civil War, and who desired
to combat anti-Semitism and to
dispel unfounded and discrimina-
tory propaganda. Today, there are
over 140 posts throughout the
United States with a membership
of over 12,000. National conven-
tions are held annually in various
sections of the United States. This
organization is not in any way con-
nected with either the American
Legion or the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
Of the 250,000 Jews who served
in the World War, it is estimated
that 2500 reside in Detroit. All
ex-servicemen are equested to at-
tend a special meeting on Wednes-
day, April 1, at Jericho Temple,
2705 Joy Road, at 8 p. m. At this
meeting the charter will close and
all who join at this meeting will
have their names appear on the
charter as organizers.
