Kates Is Candidate
For State Senator

James A, Kates is a candidate
for state senator on the Republi-
can ticket in the 15th Senatorial
District.
Though a native of Pittsburgh,
he has used in Detroit since he
was ayoungster. He attended old
Central High School, City College,
and studied law at the University
of Detroit. lie Was admitted to the
bar 10 years ago and has been
practicing law ever since. lie is
married, has one child and lives at
2;1:12 Leslie Ave.
Kates has for several years been
actively associated with local char-
itable projects, and is at the pres-
ent time, president of the Hebrew
Hospital Association.
If elected, Kates says he does not
intend to see how many new laws
he can create, but rather intends
to promote his efforts towards re-
vision of existing laws to meet the
present economic needs of the
people.

Open Meeting of Molly Sei-
gel Auxiliary Aug. 21

The Molly Seigel Auxuliary of
the Detroit Jewish Consumptive
Relief Society of Denver, Colo.,
announces an open meeting for
Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 1:30 p.
at the B'nai 'Moshe, Dexter at
Lawrence.
The business to be transacted
at this meeting will include the
case of a Detroit man whom the
auxiliary is expecting to send to
the sanatorium at Denver; also a
report on the donor luncheon,
the proceeds of which have been
sent to Denver.
Refreshments will be served.
Members are asked to bring their
friends and all those interested
are invited to attend.

Present Awards

At Camp Nahelu

Sunday, Aug. 19, the last week-
end of the current season at Camp
Nahelu, will be celebrated by the
giving of awards to the campers
of Nahelu. Awards will be gi,en
to all of the campers excelling in
the many activjties of the camp
program. These will include land
and water sports, riding, drama-
ties. journalism, nature study,
photography., camp craft, handi-
craft. clay and soap modeling,
drawing and shop activities among
a host of others.
The majority
of campers will receive the official
Red Cross emblem as • result of
having passed their swimming
tests.
Little Nahelu will also partico
pate in the awards, the pre-school
campers having shown much apti-
tude in the various camp activi-
ties.
The season now drawing to ■
close has been the roost successful
in all respects in the history of
Nahelu.
