A New Year Message.--

In the spirit of the season, we extend sincere wishes
to all the Jewish people for a Happy
and Prosperous New Year!

This is the season of spiritual stock-taking.
This is the season when thoughtful and high-
minded Jewish people look into their souls, and
take counsel with their own hearts.

—HAROLD C. ROBINSON.

We wish them the vision to see the truth,
strength to face it, and determination to make
the coming year more successful than all the
preceding years in the material, moral and
spiritual sense.

this is the first time, to our knowl-

"Modern Kosher Meals," by Mil- •
&eel Bellin makes its appearance
from the press of the Bloch Pub-
lishing Co., 31 W. 31st St., New
York ($1).
The advantage of this very use-
ful and practical book is that it
not only suggests modernly bal-
anced and economical meals, but
that it outlines daily menus, ar-
ranged by months, with an addi-
tional section for Passover.
The author, Mrs. Bellin, is an
able dietician. The arrangement
of her present volume proves her
ability.
Proof of the value of this book
will he found in the following ,

merous ones arranged in Mrs. Bel-

Jews and Jewesses of America, to

the clutches of Nazi Germany and'
the persecutions of Soviet Russia.
These scholars are brought over
to Jerusalem, where within the
walls of the Yeshivah they find
refuge and an opportunity to
resume their studies.

Paderewski should be honored by
Polish peoples as Washington is

liberated Poland and fought for its
independence in America, France
and in Poland. Ile did not try to
have any kind of personal gains
from his activities. When he Saw..
that by remaining as President he
would endanger the unity of the
Polish government, he resigned,
but I think it would have been bet-
ter for Poland if he would have
stayed there.
• I wrote these lines with the pur-
pose of giving a blow to the un-
justified attack upon a man of such
integrity as Paderewski.
I hope that if Mr. Wronski, the
director of the Civic Opera in De- •
troit, whose son was christened by
Paderewski, will present the opera
"Manru" with Paderewski's music
(which, in my opinion, is his duty),
that Detroit Jews should help to
sell out many performance of this
important opera, which belongs to
the best of all modern operas.
