Great Encouragement to Ef-
fort for Redemption of
Palestine Soil.

Another record in attendance at
donor luncheons, and in contribu-
tions to worthy causes, was set on
Wednesday noon, when 600 were
present at the annual $5 donor
luncheon of the Ladies' Auxiliary
of the Jewish National Fund, at
the Book-Cadillac.Hotel.
The sum of 82,000 was presented
by Mrs. Eli Sachse, chairman of
the luncheon arrangements commit-
tee, to Leon Kay, president of the
Jewish National Fund Council of
Detroit, forming the net proceeds
from the luncheon.
The principal address at the
luncheon was delivered by A. II.
Friedland of Cleveland, one of the
leading Jewish educators in the
country, president of the Uational
Council of Jewish Education. and
nationally prominent as a Zionist
Pointnig out that if Jews had es-
tablished a national fund for the
redemption of their homeland when
the Temple was destroyed the en-
tire Near East could have been
bought up with mere penny dona-
tions, Mr. Friedland deplored the
fact that the Jewish National Fund
was not created until 1901. He de-
dared that some mystic power
binds Jewry to Palestine, and
quoted from the injunction that the
land of Palestine must forever be-
long to the people and most be held
in perpetuity.
