CROWLEY-MILNERS

Approximately 6,600 fires are
reported to the Detroit Fire De-
partment each-year by telephone,
fire statistics show.
The city maintains a very corn-
plete and elaborate system of fire
alarm signal boxes, with a compli-
cated wire system that covers the
metropolis thoroughly. But the
telephone in the home, in the office,'
plant and store remains the handi-
est instrument in the great ma-
jority of cases for protecting prop-
erty against loss, by summoning
fire fighting crews and equipment
Clear-headed use of the tele-
hone in reporting thousands of
cipient fires undoubtedly results
in a lower tire lop
for Detroit, by
millions of dollars annually, than
would be the ease otherwise. The
time saved by
telephoning an
s cad of searching the
neighborhood for an alarm box re-
sults in quicker arrival of the de-
partment.

Charged with intimate drama and laid in New York's colorful back-

at RKO Downtown Theater .
The picture is RKO-Radio's "Symphony of Six Million," co-featur-
ing Ricardo Cortez and Irene Dunne in a sub line romance of self-
sacrifice and love.
Directed by Gregory La Cava with the same sweep and magnitude
which distinguished the original story by Miss Hurst, the film truth-
fully reflects the stern background East Side and takes a clinical
interest in the lives of a ghetto doctor and a teacher of the slums
The film is replete with vivid sets of East Side streets, hospital
operating rooms and the free clinics which minister to the ailments
of the unfortunate poor of a big city.
Ricardo Cortez, who playa the role of the doctor, is Wen in •
sympathetic characterization for the first time in four years The
suave villain of the screen is transformed into an idealistic type.
Miss Dunne presents • noble, high-minded type of American
womanhood.
