and to All Proprietors of Grocery Story
An audience of about 250 men
and women Thursday evening
tened to an hour and a half's por-
trayal of the international Jewish
scene by the eminent non-Jewish
journalist, Pierre Van l'eassen.
The meeting was held in Maccabee
Auditorium and was arranged by
Pisgah Lodge No. 34, B'nai B'rith.
Opening his address with a de-
scription of the scene in Poland,
Mr. Van Paassen described the
manner in which Jewry in l'oland
was reduced to poverty and starva-
tion by a policy of overtaxation.
"The Jews in Poland," he de-
clared, "have been driven into the
gutter; they have been driven into
the lowest strata of the proletariat,
and I doubt whether they will leave
them alone there."
Referring to the Ilitlerite activ-
ities, Mr. Van Paassen said Philip
Rosenberg, Adolph Hitler's right-
hand man, told him: "We don't
like the Poles, but we like their pro-
gram which taxes Jews out of exis-
tence." Hitler, he stated, is aim-
ing at crushing the Jews economic-
ally.
Speaking of Hitler's desire to
emulate. Mussolini, the speaker said
that "if Hitler tries to imitate the
II Duce he is having a duce of a
job" because Mussolini is a males-
tic figure who fascinates you, while
Hitler bangs and bellows and mere-
ly stupifies, with his yelling and
his contradictions.
"The world doesn't know the sil-
ent suffering, the terror of the
Jews in Germany," Mr. Van Pane-
gen. "If the situation in the world
still is somewhat hopeful, in Ger-
many hope is gone."
Mr. Van Paassen devoted a con-
siderable portion of his lecture to a
description of event in Palestine.
Ile led up to a discussion of Zion-
ism by explaining his personal in-
terest in the Jews. Ile described
the horrors he had experienced dur-
ing the war and said that upon corn-
ing to the United States he learned
of a people that "as a people did not
dip its hands In blood." He then
went to Palestine, returning there
for other trips, and he has been
impressed by the idealism and de-
votion of the pioneers and steelers.
The one hope for the Jew, he said,
is Palestine.
Following the lecture, Mr. Van
Paassen was informally entertain-
ed at Boesky's on Griswold street
by 40 leading Zionists and B'nai
B'rith leaders, and there again dis-
cussed many of the Zionist prob-
lems, urging unstinted support on
the part of all Jews for the cause.

It proper to caution the observant Jewish public against the
practice of deception by some unscrupulous dealers selling
Passover food articles under false labels with the alluring
words, "Kosher L'Pesach," printed thereon.
When purchasing your supplies of matzos, macaroons,
cakes, candies, spices, dried fruits, milk or other drinks for
Passover use, be on your guard to convince yourself that
those articles are attested to by the Vaad Harabonim as being
genuinely fit for the designated purpose from a religious point
of view,
