The office of Sheriff Henry
Behrendt is not only enforcing the
law but is becoming a center of
relief for the needy and unem-
ployed.
Several instances of hurnanitar-
ian effort emanating from Sheriff
Behrendt's office have earned for
him a reputation as a friend of
the needy. Thus, many unem-
ployed, in search of food and shel-
ter, have approached hint and his
staff for help, and none has been
turned away without some effort
being made in his behalf. As a
result, the sheriff's office, under
Mr. Behrendt and his able staff,
has become known as a sort of,
relief-distributing agency.
During the Community Fund
campaign, Mr. Behrendt and his
' associates contributed $1,000.
Compared with previous gifts from
the sheriff's office, this is a record
topping previous donations almost
: ten-fold.
And ,to top all these relief ac-
I tivities, Sheriff Behrendt and his
staff plan to feed 1,000 families
; during the Christmas reason. The

the distribution of clothes.
