English translation of the Zo-
bar, the chief source book a
Cabbalistic literature, will be
published in November by the
Soncino Pres, it was announced
here. The work will be issued
in five volumes of about 400
pages each. The edition will be
limited to 1,250 numbered sets.
The original of the Zohar is
written in Hebrew and Artunaic.
The translator, Henry Sperl-
ing, has for many year nude a
special study of the Cabbala
and the Zohar and has written
a number of monographs on the
subject. Ile has worked in col-
laboration with Maurice Simon,
who is the author of several
studies in Jewish literature and

ber of scholars intimately ac-
quainted with English and Jew-
ish literature.
The Rev. Dr. J. Abelson has
contributed an introduction to
the translation in which he
traces the development of the
Zohar from the earliest times
and shows the conspicuous place
which it occupies in the Jewish
as well as in the general litera-
ture of mysticism.
