That the Bible is the main force
behind most movements in history
was pointed out by Rabbi A. M.
Hershman in an address to the stu-
dents of the senior classes of the.
Sunday School of the Shaarey
Zetlek Congregation last Sunday
morning. Rabbi Hershman dis-
cussed the part that the Bible
played in influencing the abolition-
ist movement during the Civil
War. Ile showed that the abo-
litionists were greatly influenced
by the Biblical commandment that
a slave, having escaped, should not
be returned to his master. Rabbi
Hershman also told I if many in-
stances which illustrate the extent
to which Abraham Lincoln was
guided by the Bible.
Another feature of the program
was the singing of a comical song
which told the story of Purim by
little Cecelia Smith of the seventh
grade. Between each stanza the
assembly joined in singing the
chore', The assembly was con-
cluded with singing two Purim
songs led by Prof. Elijah 'Galati-
kowski.
At the council meeting. Phut ,
t•• ■ ,r a Purim party were made, to
be held on Sunday. March 1, at the
Atkinson branch of the synagogue.
