HER DAY
By NINA KAYE
The day began for her with the
cheery ringing of the telephone.
Paplinf patted her mouth, not be-
cause she was yawning, but it add-
ed to her sense of luxury, lying in
bed and reaching out indolently
for the telephone.
Pauline spoke carelessly in the
direction of the transmitter. "Yes.
Yes. Why I'd love to." When she
hung up, her arms slid along the
pillow until her hands clasped over

the startled pleasure it gave her,
being sought out by people like
Mrs. Solomon. In the old days—
ten, thirteen, oh, what did it mat-
ter how many years ago?—people
like Mrs. Solomon didn't pay much
attention to Pauline Glanz, who

Detroit, of course, became the
center of this great industrial sec-
tion, due largely to the growth and
rapid development of the automo-
tive industry, but the nearby cities

Wyandotte, because of its unusual
natural resources, has become a
national center of chemical manu-
facturing. Mt. Clemens is known
throughout the land for its health-
building mineral baths.

within a few years became a hive
on industrial activity.
The spreading of manufactur-
ing plants outside the limits of De-
troit was a natural one. As the
number of plants increased, fewer
and fewer desirable locations were
to be found. Too, the number of
factories made it necessary for
thousands of workers to travel long
distances daily to and from their
work, thus creating a problem of
stabilization of labor supply.
