THE MESSAGE OF 5689
AMERICA PROUD OF ITS JEWISH
CITIZENS, SAYS GOVERNOR GREEN
By RABBI ISAAC STOLLMAN
A year of many historical events is passing, leav-
ing us behind in tears and indignation. The ap-
Holy Days will be overfilled with
worshipers at various cangregations, and many tears
will be shed again on account of the losses and sacri-
fices of our brthren in the Holy Land.
But the year 5689 left us a great and sacred mes-
sage that should not be forgotten, a message which
we will have to study and learn in the future years
to come. It is the holy message that calls for unity
and conscientiousness.
The previous year is responsible for two great
events, fortunate and unfortunate occurrences, the
founding of the Jewish Agency and the assaults of
the brutal Arabs on our peaceful, innocent brthren in
Palestine. Whether the assaults should be consid-
ered as the bloody reply of the Arabs to the Agency
or not, one things is certain, that both extended to
us the sacred call for a united Jewry.
One thing we should remember, that if there is
any way to quicken the upbuilding of the Jewish
homeland it is merely by the co-operation of a united
Jewry. And the sooner unity will be secured, the
prompter will the upbuilding come.
We are now at the time when we gather in masses
in various places of worship, we come closer to one
another and we should not fail the moment.
Let us remember that -the whole nation is breath-
lessly awaiting our reply of encouragement.
There are many other difficult problems to solve.
The Yeshivath from abroad are in danger of dissolu-
tion, because of lack of support. And even a great
number of American Jewish educational institutions
are in precarious situations.
The response of unity and national conscience will
also rescue the educational institutions.
Let us not forget the holy message of the passing
year!

It is a pleasure to avail myself of an opportunity
of extending through the medium of The Detroit
Jewish Chronicle cordial greetings to the Jewish
people on the inauguration of a new year in their
calendar. The religious significance which is at-
tached to New Year's Day by this people, enjoining
upon them as it does solemn communion with God
and through introspection of their souls, gives the
day a spiritual solemnity not found in the secular
observances of like days in other calendars. America
is proud of its citizens of Jewish descent as it is proud
of all groups who have enriched its history, its culture
and its progress with their contribution.
It is my earnest hope that the coming year will
bring happiness and prosperity to the Jets's in what-
ever lands they may lie.

Most people realize that the New Chevrolet Is a Six
in the price range of the four. But not everyone
knows what a really wonderful Six it is!
Take design, for instance. The Chevrolet en-
gineering staff spent more than four years in the
development of the Chevrolet Six. Motor, springs,
brakes, bodies, steering gear—all were designed
not only to be correct within themselves, but also
to fit harmoniously into the car as a whole. And
during all this time, exhaustive tests were being
made at the General Motors Proving Ground.
Consider materials. Because of its great volume
and vast purchasing power, Chevrolet naturally
commands the finest available sources of supply.
But, in addition, Chevrolet has set up its own
individual standards for testing quality. Metal
intended for motor blocks must pass nine rigid
scientific tests before Chevrolet will accept it.
Spring steel must pass nine; rear axle steel, seven;
and upholstery materials, seven.
And, remember, these tests are for materials only.
Taken altogether, there are nine thousand in-
spections during the production and assembly of a
Chevrolet Six!
Again, the result is exactly what you'd expect —
quality in material and workmanship that assures
years of dependable and satisfactory service!
Come In today. We want you to see and drive this
car—for it will give you a new idea as to what the
buyer of a low-priced car can now expect for his
money!
