WHY DO YOU COUNT IN TENS?

CHARITY BALL TO

Things You Ought to Know.
In prehistoric times man found
it necessary to count, but the only
means he knew of were his fingers
and toes. As he had 10 toes and
10 fingers, it was natural for him
to count in tens and he has been
doing it ever since. We restrict
the usage to our fingers, leaving
our toes in our shoes, of course.
Prehistoric man used fingers and
toes, and so could count 20 before
beginning over again. Little chil-
dren today sometimes count with
their fingers, but when they reach
10, they have to start again. Do
you know that Murad is the one

and rare worth? Murad is truly
an achievement—a most delight-
ful blending of the fragrant Turk-

the Ilazoinir Choral Society, de-
livered an interesting lecture deal-
ing with the history and develop-
ment of music, from its very be-
ginning as a part of religious serv-
ices to the present day "jazz." The
influence of Jewish music upon mu-
sic in general was given especial
emphasis by the speaker.
Prof. Zaludkowski also treated
in detail the lives and works of a
number of earlier composers in-
cluding, among withers, Palestrina,
Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart, Bach,
and Beethoven. He illustrated
many of his remarks by singing
and playing on the piano excerpts
from various styles and pieces of
music
Following the lecture, a musical
program was presented by a mini-
ber of soloists of the Hazomir
Choral Society and assisting ar-
tists. They were: Miss Rhoda
Goldberg, dramatic soprano, who
sang a group of songs in English,
Jewish and Italian; Mrs. Mildhs1
Samuels, who sang a group of so-
prano solos in Jewish, and Samuel
Shpargel, who played the senall-
paniments and a group of piano
selections, including a delightful
composition of his own entitled
"The Music Box." In addition.,
)layer Shapiro played a group of
violin :tidos, accompanied by Sam-
uel Solomon.
At the meeting of the Ilazoni:r
Society on Thursday, Jan. 17, the
program consisted of a review of
the life of Beethoven by Prof. Zal-
udkowski, and a group of tenor so-
los by S. Sherman. The program
at the meeting on next Thursday
evening, Jan. 21, at the Shaarey ,
Zwidek branch, 9125 Twelfth, will '
be provided by Miss Ethel Blum-
e:Held, soprano, and Miss Mari in
Nussbaum, pianist.
New Whippet Four Has
Longer and Roomier
Body.
Indications are that the new Su-
perior Whippet Four Coach, which
easily accommodates five in its
spacious seats, may prove one of
the most popular cars ever pro-
duved by the 1Villys-Overland Co.
Although many of the original
Whippet mechanical features
which have proved no successful in
the past are retained, both the
chassis and bodies are entirely
newly designed and bear no resem-
blance to the former Whippets.
The new Whippet Four is increas-
ed in wheelbase with longer and
romnier bodies. The power plant
also shows marked improvement
over previous models. The new
"Finger-Tip Control" is an out-
standing feature on all products of
the Toledo manufacturer.

PROBABLY THE MOST NOTABLE FEATURE OF THE 1929
ANNUAL AUTOMOBILE SHOWS IS TIIE FACT THAT CADILLAC

HIGH CLASS IN ALL THESE EXHIBITS. ALL OTHERS ARE
DESIGNED, DECORATED AND BUILT FOR LESS EXACTING
BUYERS TIIAN THE CADILLAC -LA SALLE CLIENTELE.
The plain uncompromising truth is that there
are literally no cars existing today that can
equal Cadillac and IA Salle.
This is perhaps inevitable, for the finest pre.
vision laboratories in the world are the Cadillac-
la Salle manufacturing plants.
And this fact is so unirersally accepted that,
oil an arerage, seem thousand people from
every corner of the earth—engincers,scientists,
IT makes no difference whether you fa-

factory, at motor car shows, or in dealer

with the inescapable fact that if you buy
any car other than Cadillac or 1.0 Salle you
must be content with far less than Cadillac
and la Salle offer in safety, in ease, in
beauty, in performance.
Safety:
For no other cars are equipped

Effortless Four-Wheel Brakes, Spero-

Cadillac plants to study Cadillac's precision
manufacturing practices and processes.
They nutke these voluntary visits because
they know these processes are so fine and
are carried on with such extreme nicety of
finish and alignment that they are regarded
as unique in the automobile industry and
their fame has spread throughout the world.
