NOBILE CALLS ON
COMRADE'S FAMILY

MILAN.--(J. T. A.)—General
Nobile, leader of the "Italia" po-
lar expedition which ended in dis-
aster and the loss of eight mem-
bers of the crew, visited the moth-
er of Aldo Pontremnli, the Jewish
scientist who is among the missing
members of the expedition.
General Nobile expressed the
hope that the party which was lost
in the Italia's gondola when the
tap part of the airship was carried
away, may still be alive.
He described to Madame Pon-
tremoli, who is the daughter of
the late Italian Jewish statesman,
Luigi Luzzatti, the last days he
spent with her son in the airship.
General Nobile displayed grief at
the feared loss of the party, and
explained to the scientist's mother
how fortunate it was that the valu-
able work of Observations on the
flight made by Pontremoli had
been saved.

BASLE..—(•t. T. A.)—A deci-
sion to convene a congress for Jew-
ish research work was adopted at
the session of the Curatorium of
the Institute of Jewish Studies at
the Hebrew University which was
held here last week.
A special commission was ap-
pointed to make the necessary
preparations for the convening of
the congress.
The Council adopted a number
of resolutions aiming to extend
the work of the Institute of Jewish
Studies. It decided to inaugurate
academic courses in the history of
Hebrew literature, in Halacha,
Cabala and the study of Palestine
topography, geology, history and
geography. A course is also to he
given in the history of the Jewish
religions philosophy.
The question of creating a chair
for the study of the Bible and the
disputed proposal fur the estab-
lishment .of a chair for the study
of the Yiddish language and liter-
ature also came up. With regard
to these questions, committees
were appointed to investigate and
report.
