"Yes," said the man, "it was

Then Choni remembered the
conversation he had had before he
went to sleep. "Strange." he whis-
pered to himself. "I nu-t have
slept for at least 70 years."

Ile then went to his Monte and
asked for his son. "Ile is long
since dead," the people told him.
but he was informed that the
grandson of Choni the Circle
drawer was still alive.
But
"I am Choni," he said.
the people thought that this told
man was babbling and they merely
laughed at hint. With fear in his
heart Choni then betook himself
to the House of Study, anol he
found the scholars just congratu-
lating themselves on having solved
some knotty problems. "It is just
05 in the days of Choni the Circle-
drawer," they exclaimed, "for
when he came to the Beth Ilame-
drash he explained every diffi-
culty."
"Ah," thought Choni, "here at
least I am remembered," and he
strode into the midst of the schol-
ars, exclaiming "I am Choni!"
But again he was doomed to dis-
appointment. Ile was not be-
lieved, and no one stoop up to
show respect to the great sage.
Slowly and sadly he went out.
"It were well that I should die,"
he muttered. Heaven took pity 071
him and he died.
