In 1918, the Hadassah Medical
Organization which is being sup-
ported by Hadassah, the Women's
Zionist Organization of America,
enlarged its health program in
Palestine to include a school hy-
giene department. When Hadas-
sah undertook this added piece of
health work, almost 41 per cent of
all pupils in the Jewish schools in
the Holy Land were found to be
suffering from Trachoma (a dis-
ease of the eye leading to blind-
ness) and 40 per cent had diseases
of the skin.
Iladassah undertook an inten-
sive campaign among the school
children and so thoroughly did it
do its work that today the percent-

In the schools, Hadassah nurses

teachers give classroom lectures
