Zionism In Danger,
Fosdick Declares

I

One Man In Ten Knows

O

What
does the picture
mean?

"Oh, mamma!" exclaims little Eunice,
aged eight, "I know what it is! It's a Dino-
sauris! I learnt all about them in school!"

"Don't be ridiculous, child," admonishes
the embarrassed mother; "that's a rhodo-
dendron — a lovely flower — though very
hard to spell!"

"No, my dears, I am sorry to tell you that
you are both mistaken." (This is the grand
manner from the so-called Head of the
Household.) "The picture is a visualiza-
tion of a symbolic motif like "The Birth of
a Nation!"

But they are all wrong. The art exhibit
catalog would have let them all in on the
artist's secret. The bit of cubist "art" is
called "Furniture" and it is herein that the
heart of this preachment lies.

• • •

You can't judge furniture entirely by the pic-
tures in the ad!

In furniture, as in folks, it is the hidden vir-
tues that count.
• • •

What does the picture tell us of the skill and

care of the workman thru whose hands it

passed?

Nothing.

What of the woods? What of the textiles?
What of the finish? What of the detail? What
of the expectation of live and service? Nothing!
It cannot even be regarded in some instances,
as a faithful portrayal of lines and proportions.
• • •
Of course, we also use pictures in our ads.
Will continue to do so in the future. But the
general short-coming of furniture illustrations
as revealed to us in the course of a long and con-
sidered investigation prompts this word of cau-
tion.

If you are favorably impressed by an "illus-
tration," pause and ask yourself the question :
"What does the picture mean?" Regard it as
a hint, a suggestion, a pointer, determining fac-
tor in your selection of a store.
There are other factors far more important.
And many of these cannot be sketched by any
artist.

• • •

Choose your furniture as you choose frineds
—not by pictures, but by living, appealing re-
ality.
It is the reputation of a house for sincere, conscien-

tious serric.--for intelligent, whole-hearted understand-
ing of its business—for enthusiastic ro.operation among
its employes—for buying sagacity and selling capacity
—for sheer, modern "know how" and plain, old-fash-
toned value-giving—that serves as the only dependable
guide.

The ROBINSON-COHEN CO. has built up its vast and
unique business by consistently selling "America's Finest

We Regret This Contro-
versy and the Inconven-
ience It Is Causing.. • •

The Jewish Master Bakers Association,
in its desire to supply the Jewish community
with bread, has repeatedly made attempts
to end the strike by the Bakers and Confec-
tioners Union. Overtures have been made
to the union in an effort to settle this contro-
versy by arbitration, but all these requests
have been refused.

The Jewish Master Bakers Association,
notwithstanding statements to the contrary,
is not trying to disorganize or disrupt the
union. To protect our interests and rights,
we simply want an agreement with the
Bakers Union without the drivers, as we re-
fuse to be told by the drivers to whom and
when we shall sell our products.
