little girl, Eada Joy Rubenstein,1
daughter of Mrs. Rose Rubenstein
of 418 King avenue. The child,
though her tiny hands fell far
short of reaching a full octave,
displayed a skill worthy of a touch
older person.
The child's norther, who is also
her teacher, has the unusual dis-
tinction of having developed two
such prodigies in successive years,
having coached little Morton Sul-
tan, the 4-year-old prodigy who
last year won a loving cup in the
contest.
These two unusual success in
creating interest and understand-
ing of the wider field of music
mark Mrs. Rubenstein as an out-
standing teacher, especialy of chil-
dren. She may well be counted
among the best in the city.

Women who send their silk dresses and

save enables them to buy more and bet-

MUSIC

Abram Shynman Recital.

By Maurice Warner.

Pagan, the Italian aesthetician,
once said that, "art consists in the
beauties dispersed in nature. The
capacity to bring them into one
whole is artistic genius." To Ab-
rain Shynman, the pianist, may be
attributed this saying, for his tune-
ful compositions are suffused with
that golden power well able to pene-
trate into the tine emotional com-
partments of the listeners musical
soul, and with that excellent tech-
nique reminiscent of the grand mas-
ters of pianoforte playing.
The "'piece de resistance" of the
program was Grieg's scintillating
"Ballade " full of those mysterious
melodies of the North, typical of his
music, which Shynman executed
with the flawless technique charac-
teristic of all his playing. Each
note, regardless of the rapidity, was
heard distinctly and stood out as a
bar relief.
Ills interpretation of the C Min-
or, Nocturne, the Waltz in A Flat,
and the Polonaise in A Major by
Chopin was perfectly expressed.
The immortal Polish pianist was
primarily a poet, and Mr. Shynman
played those numbers as if he were
speaking to the public through the
medium of the piano. Likewise his
interpretation of Beethoven (An-
dante F. Major) and the brilliant
Etude of Mendelsohn was musical
glory.
The charming Gavotte of Karg-
anoff was played very skillfully and
presented the liveliness of the piece
in full measure. The final group
Chansonette, Coquette, Estrellita
abounds in superb grace and affec-
tion. Abram Shynman is one of the
finest exponents of those numerous
virtuosi who, as Huneker says,
Are members of that race whose
religious tenets specifically incline
them to the love and practice of
music."
