schools throughout the country rec-
ognize the value of employing phys-
ical directors who, in many cases,
arc specially trained along prevent-

These teachers are directing par-
cats' attention to the necessity of
proper footwear and foot exercises
so as to ensure that the rising gen-
eration avoids the foot troubles
which older people experience.
Detroit is one of the foremost
cities in this respect. The board of
education employs a highly trained
staff part of whose duty is to ex-
amine children's feet at intervals
and to prescribe special shoes when
necessary. Statistics issued show
considerable reduction in the num-
ber of foot deformities.
