A Governor in Fact.
"Governor Groesbeck has been a
gvernor
in actual fact. He has never
o
shi rked or side-stepped responsibility.
He has accepted authority and exer-
cised it.
"Undoubtedly Governor Groes-
beck's public service has been at a
large financial sacrifice. Ile has given
hie whole time to his state duties and
has virtually donated his personal
earning capacity to the service of his
state. In his profession, the gov-
ernor would surely earn many times
the small salary he receives as a state
officer. This fact furnishes another
reason why he should be returned to
office, for Michigan needs men of such
ability to handle its business as a
state.
"Citizens who think and who cast
their votes as their thoughts and
common sense dictates, will vote for
Alex. J. Groesbeck for governor, both
at the nominating primary on Sept.
9 and on election day, Nov. 4."
A N•tive of Michig•a.
Alexander Joseph Groesbeck was
born Nov. 7, 1873, of French-Dutch
ancestry, in Warren township, Ma-
comb county, Mich., and has always
lived in this state with the exception
of two years.
His father was Louis Groesbeck, a
descendant of early Dutch and
French settlers, and his mother, Julia
Coquillard Groesbeck, descended
from early French pioneers.
Mr. Groesbeck spent his boyhood

teens in a sawmill and at 1'7 began
the study of law in the office of Ste-
vens & Merriath at Port Huron. With
the foundation in law secured here,
Mr. Groesbeck entered the law de-
partment of the University of Michi-
gan and graduated in 1893.
Groesbeck was elected by the peo-
ple of Michigan as governor on his
record as attorney general.
The people of Michigan recognized
so well what he had accomplished as
the head of the legal department of
the state that he was nominated and
elected to the position he now holds.
During the period that he has been
governor he put the state on a bust-
ness basis. Thousands of dollars that

In "Our Palestine Letter," written
each week by Hag M. Epstein for
the New Palestine, the correspondent
makes this observation concerning the
Bedouin tribe which desires to em-
brace Judaism: "More information
is forthcoming about the Bedouin
tribe which desires to adopt the Jew-
ish faith and nationality. The chief,
so runs the story, dreamt that one
appeared to him and revealed that
he and his family were of Israel's
stock and enjoined them to return to
the fold. After long consultation with
the elders it was agreed to obey the
visionary command.
: Gerim are not uncommon among
Jews, here as elsewhere, but this
wholesale unsolicited conversion has
not won the hearts of the Safed rab-
bis towhom the Arabs applied in the
first instance. One wonders whether
they are not entitled to a more cor-
dial welcome."
