TRIAL FOR BANDITISM
Board of Fire Underwriter.
WELISZ, Russia.—(J. T. A. Cor-
respondence)—Two young Jews have
been brought up on trial here on a
charge of banditism. They are Moses
Afroth, 22, and Simchah Abelsk, 25.
%Vohs' (province of Witebsk) has
till very recently suffered to a great
extent from banditism. About a hun-
dred Jews who were killed by bandits
during the last year, lie buried in the
Welisz Jewish cemetery. The town is
not even now safe from the bandits,
RH the report of the trial conse-
quently brought a huge crowd to the
courthouse, particularly as the two
prisoners were local Jews.
The courthouse being too small for
the crowd of spectators, the trial was
transferred to the local theater. The
reading of an indictment and formal
evidence occupied the whole of the
first day.
There is no direct proof of robbery
or murder being committed by the ac-
cused, and finally it was decided to re-
lease A froth on hail. In Abelsk's case,
however, the bail was refused, several
convicted bandits declaring that he
was associated with their gang, as the
receiver of the goods stolen by them,
and that he knew well how the goods
had been obtained.
The trial has been adjourned for in-
quiries.

LENIBERG.—(J. T. A. Correspond-

schools, children's homes and evening
classes in Eastern Galicia have been
under the management of three dif-
ferent committees—the Poole Zion, the
aff
Borochow organization and the So-
ciety "Our Children." About six
months ago Poole Zion and the Boro-
chow organizations united, and now
the society "Our Children" has joined
the common body so that all the
schools in Eastern Galicia in which
Yiddish is the language of instruction
are now administered by one commit-
tee—the United Central Committee
of the Yiddish School Organization in
Eastern Galicia, it is called.
Up to the present there have been
opened nine schools, 12 children's
homes and a large number of evening
classes. The language of instruction
is Yiddish but Hebrew and Polish are

A conference will be held shortly,

Under the electorial law, the total
number of votes obtained by a party
in the Parliamentary elections are not
added up for the purpose of deter-
mining the number of representatives
to which the party is entitled unless
the party succeeds in at least one con-

Because the Jews have not yet re-
turned a direct representative, they
have been unable to obtain their pro-

total number of votes cast for their
candidates would entitle them to five
deputies and three senators.

BUCHAREST.--(J. T. A.) — The
congress of anti-Semites originally
scheduled to 1* held in Czernowitz but
which was forbidden by the govern-
ment from convening there will be
held in Kipolung, Bukowina, instead.
Announcement of the new place of
meeting of the Jew-bailers was made
by Professor Cuza, the leader of the
agitators, immediately following the
government's decree forbidding the
gathering in Czernowitz.
Bukowina Jews are sharply protest-
ing against the meeting in their ter-
ritory, and hove sent a deputation to
Bucharest to lay their protests before
the government.
The anti-Semites are boasting that
they count 8,000 soldiers among their
members, and the fowling among the
Jews is that the meeting of the anti-
Semites will hardly end without dis-
turbances.
Although the government quickly
put an end to the anti-Semites hopes
of meeting in Czernowitz, it seems to
