;

The Detroit Concert Direction, un-
der the management of Isobel J.
Hurst, announce their series of con-
certs for 1923-24 in Orchestra Hall.
It is well balanced, varied anti attrac-
tive.
The opening concert, a complete
departure from the traditional con-
cert, presents the Chicago Trio, with
Claudio Muzio. soprano; Cyrena Van
Gordon, contralto, and Charles Mar-
shall, tenor, in the last act of the
ever-popular and beautiful opera.
"Aida." This will be sung in cos-
tume and with proper scenery—at-
mosphere and background not preen-
lent in the straight concert. So many
singers who have the power to sway
and hold their audience in opera, fail
to hold their interest in concert, be-
cause of this lack of atmosphere.
Each artist will sing a group of songs
in English, in addition to the act
from the opera.
Rosa Raisa, brilliant dramatic so-
prano of both the :Metropolitan and
Chicago Opera Associations will sing
in concert with Giacomo Rimini, bari-
tone. Mme. Raisa is without ques-
tion the leading dramatic soprano on

In the model kitchen not a detail
has been overlooked which might aid
in lightening the housewife's labors.
An electric ventilating fan keeps the
room supplied with fresh, cool air;
the electric refrigerator avoids the
uncertainty and annoyance of the ice
man's visits, and the dishwasher,
range and fireless cooker, all oper-
ated by electricity, serve to lessen
the heat, work and time usualy con-
sidered unavoidable in the prepara-
tion of a meal.
The attractive walnut table in the
second floor sitting room never fails
to elicit feminine praise, when upon
lifting the cover of a motor-driven
sewing machine with an electric light
attachment is brought into position.
The laundry problem is solved by a
mangle, overhead flat iron attach-
ments, washing machine, clothes
drier and specially designed overhead
lights.

charger in the garage has been fully
explained, the value of electrical aids
to work, convenience and pleasure is
constantly emphasized. Attendants
are stationed throughout the house to
explain the uses of the numerous ap-
pliances.
The electric fireplace is so decep-
tive in its appearance that many
shunned it during the heat of the last
week for the apparently more attrac.
tive atmosphere surrounding the nu-
merous electric fans. A beautiful
piece of furniture in one corner of
the living room proves to be the fam-
ily's radio set, while the self-winding
clock in the dining room is a source
of interest to all who are apt to be
careless about this necessary opera-
tion.

the operatic stage today—re-engaged
by the Chicago Opera Association for
seven consecutive seasons.
Friedrich Schorr, baritone, scored
such brilliant triumphs with the Wag-
nerian Opera Company last season
that he has been engaged to open the
Metropolitan Opera Company this
fall. With Mr. Schorr in recital will
appear the talented young violinist,
Bronsilaw Iluherman, whom New
York critics declare in the ranks of
Kreisler and ileifitz.
Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn and the
Denishawn Dancers are also to be in-
cluded in the series. Many new and
beautiful numbers will be included
in the program of these charming
dancers who so completely captivated
Detroiters last season.
Beniamino Gigli, considered by
many the youngest and greatest tenor
in the world today, will sing the last
recital of the series. So very rapid
has been the rise of this gifted young
singer in the ranks of the really great
and so completely has he won the
hearts of his listeners that Detroit
music lovers will welcome this oppor-
tunity of heating him in concert.
Reservations are now being booked

Nokol Installed in Electrical

Home.

The Michigan Oil bleating Com-
pany, 2704 Cass avenue, has instal-
led a Nokol outfit in the new elec-
trical home at 2277 Glynn court,
making the heating arrangements of
this model home as modern as the
other features of the house.
Nokol is a simple appliance that
burns oil in your present heating
plant and it can be installed in any
weather, very quickly. Five years
ago a coal furnace was the best
means devised for heating a home,
but today thousands of Nokol own-
ers have forever done away with
dirty basements and the drudgery of
taking care of a furnace.
The Michigan Oil bleating Com-
pany has made many installations of
their famous product in Detroit and
are receiving new inquiries constant-
ly from interested home owners.

Samuel S. Stahl's Candidacy
for the Council Gains in
Popularity.

The candidacy of Samuel S. Stahl
for the Council gained impetus the
past week when friends of the can-
didate advocated his election on sev-
eral public occasions.
At the conclave held by the Nobles
of the Mystic Shrine of the Moslem
Temple, Detroit, at Boblo, on June
1, half a dozen of Mr..Stahl's friends
were active in circulating his nomi-
nating petitions for councilman, to
be voted for at the primaries on Oct.
it. Petitions were circulated on board
the two boats as well as on the island,
and Mr. Stahl's friends were success-
ful in obtaining more than 2,800 sig-
natures. There were in attendance
at this conclave 6,500 members of
the Shrine from Detroit and vicinity.
On June 3, at the Bicur Cholem
excursion, more than 1,200 signa-
tures were obtained aboard the boats
and at Tashmoo Park. Dr. Joseph
Aarons, prominent honorary member
of the Bicur Cholem Juniors, made
his initial campaign speech for Mr.
Stahl, in which he assured the audi-
ence that the reason he was for Mr.
Stahl was that he knows him to be
the right man for the office of Colin'.
cilman and the proper representative
for his coreligionists in the:city. He
said that Mr. Stahl was for' municipal
ownership and advocated immediate
pavement of streeta no far neglected.
Dr. Aarons pointed out that there are
about 75,000 automobiles used on
the streets of Detroit daily and the
depreciation on these cars, caused
from riding over these poor streets,
figuring conservatively at 10 centa
per car daily, should bring the vast
sum to $3,000,000 annually.
