Detroit Lodge No. 34 of the Benev-
olent and Protective Order of Elks
will give its public Flag Day exercises
on the anniversary of the making of
the American Flag, June 15, in one
of the public parks this year. In
connection with the proposed celebra-
tion of Flag Day, Treasurer Joseph
P. Henry of the Elks, has offered
three prizes for the best essays on the
American Flag, to be competed for
by the school children of all the public
and private schools of the city of De-
troit. Prizes are respectively $15, 10
and $5 for the first, second and third
essays, and the competition is limited
to school girls and boys under four-
teen years of age. The essays will be
handed in at Elks' Temple on or be-
fore June 10 and the prizes will be
given as part of the Flag Day cere-
monies.
