planation of the action of the trus-
tees:
"The reason for our refusing the
use of the forum to Mrs. Sanger was
simply because we object to the au-
ditorium of the synagogue being used
for birth control propaganda, and
that is, I think, a sufficient reason.
Dr. Mischkind has resigned from Tre-
mont 'temple and his resignation has
been accepted. It was handed in at
an informal meeting of the trustees.
Nine of the 15 trustees were present
a nd their action has been approved
by the absent members. The mat-
ter will come up at the formal meet-
ing on Tuesday. 'this synagogue is
without a rabbi and we will engage
a new one. The board of trustees has
the power to engage rabbis and we
are going to engage one. Dr. Misch-
kind has been here two years next
September. Ile came from Wheel-
ing, W. Va., and succeeded Dr. Ma-
sins Ranson.
"About two months ago Dr. Misch-
kind invited Dr. Oscar Haywood, Ku
Klux Klan speaker, to occupy the
pulpit, and as soon as I heard about
it 1 refused to allow Dr. Haywood to
speak. I told Dr. Mischkind at that
time that he must submit the names
of speakers he proposed to the trus-
tees. Ile did not do this. Ile got
out his notices of the Sanger meeting
without my knowledge. These no-
tices arrived yesterday morning. As
soon as I learned of them I told him
that Mrs. Sanger could not speak in
the temple. Our forum is made up
mostly of boys and girls 14 and 15
years old and so there was need to
stop the affair at once. For this rea-
son I did not wait for the meeting
of trustees."
