When a man comes to me for a loan on his property, there
are three things I want to know. The first is about HIS CHAR-
ACTER; has he a reputation for integrity, business ability, and a
strict sense of responsibility? Then I want to know the VALUE
OF HIS PROPERTY, of course. That is the security behind the
loan. Third, and very important, I want to know how well HIS
PROPERTY IS PROTECTED.
"Fire insurance of course, is essential. There are mighty few
property owners without it. But there are other ways in which
a building may be destroyed — dangers of loss which should be
guarded against by means of insurance. For instance, it might
be blown down by a windstorm, or wrecked by an explosion. It
might stand in the path of a mob on mischief bent. If a man is
insured against loss froM these sources, it is a pretty good indi-
cation that he is disposed to take no chances, and that is always
a good recommendation for credit.
"When I find a man who has an UNQUESTIONABLE CHAR-
ACTER and VALUABLE PROPERTY which is COMPLETELY
PROTECTED FROM LOSS, I know he is good for a loan.

Special interest attaches to a letter
dated Jerusalem addressed by Rev.
Dr. Alexander Lyons of Eighth ave-
nue Temple, Brooklyn, to Emanuel
Neumann, the secretary of the Karen
Ilayesod in America. The letter is
full of enthusiasm for the Jewish pio-
neers and the Jewsih colonies. Dr.
Lyons writes: "I believe that you will
