Philommhic Debating Club.
What proved to he a program of
intense humor and wit was charac-
teristic of that witnessed by the
Philomathic at the Farnsworth Tal-
mud Torah last Sunday. Dialogues,
monologues and character displays
reigned supreme as the headliners for
the evening. Jokes and stories, both
original and otherwise, were dis-
played in a delightful manner and
proved a huge treat for the mem-
bers. The organization showed a
spirit of good feeling and the pro-
gram came as a relief to the mem-
bers from the regular weekly ached-
uled debates. Along with the hu-
morous program the club heard a
very splendid address when J. B.
Horowitz, an honorary member of the
organization, spoke. The club then
adjourned after the speaker of the
club, harry II. Platt, spoke on need
of co-operation and sincere work on
the part of the members in anticipa-
tion of the Model Meeting which will
be held in June.
The program committee, in at-
tempting to secure debates of late
and current interest, has scheduled
a debate on the much talked of sub-
ject of whether Judge Bartlett is
justifiable in jailing speeders. Bart-
lett'e policy will be upheld and its ne-
cessity will be shown by Sam Guro•
vitz and Louis Carpi, while Charles
Ornstein and Sydney DeYoung pro-
pose to show the wrong of this pokey.
The club has taken an active part
in the B'nai B'rith movement for a
community building. The organiza-
tion will have a booth at the bazaar.
Messrs. Platt, DeYoung and Budnitz-
sky are in charge of the arrangements
for this event and are working in co-
operation with the members in charge
of the bazaar.
With the appointment of Daniel
Budnitzsky as chairman of the Model
Meeting committee, preparations are
under way for this annual affair,
when an open meeting is held and
visitors encouraged to attend.
