Jew and we appreciate Mr. Schermerhorn's comments
1 of upon the Dr.
Hough's expression. The editorial referred to reads

as follows:

It is a good day to stand at the grave of racial and religious
prejudice, to forget it rather than remember it, and please omit
flowers. The late unlamented is not worth a cabbage leaf.
Race, creed and clan were forgotten in the splendor of the na-
tion's response when the call to arms resounded through the land.
It was enough to know that all were Americans ready to do and dare
and die for America.
All through the casualty lists that came later were unpronounce-
able names that proved to what extent the foreign born had stood
by the country of their adoption.
While decorating their graces it is a good time to highly resolve
that we keep the slow poison of prejudice out of our system. Noth-
ing is deadlier in its effects upon that spiritual broadness which
makes for brotherhood and humanities. Nothing is more menacing
to that oneness which goes to make up a glorious and unconquerable
nation.

At the Grave of Prejudice.

As timely as it is gracious, is the editorial published by
Mr. James Schermerhorn in the Memorial Day edition of his
paper, The Detroit Times. Indeed, so significant are the words
of this gifted writer and so amply expressive of the American
spirit, that we reprint the editorial in full. And yet, it need
not be doubted that in what Mr. Schermerhorn has written, he
has but given expression to the sentiment and the conviction
of the overwhelming majority of our American fellow citizens.
The true American has no patience with the petty prejudices
that characterize narrow souls. The true American stands
ready to judge every man upon the basis of his individual man-
hood. And integrity of character is for him the sole index a- -
of worth.
This thought was well brought out, too, by Dr. Lynn Harold
of the Central M. E. Church. whose words were the
Hough, of

it be said in passing, is an eminent exponent of the new spirit
that is increasingly manifesting itself in the pulpit fo all de-;=

American. We appreciate what he has said

So many readers have asked me to say something about the Keren
Hayesod and the split between the Zionist groups of this country and
Europe, headed on the one hand by Justice Brandeis and Judge Madk
and on the other by Dr. Weizmann and other big Europeans, that I
think it worth while to give a paragraph or two from the statement

of the "Zionist Committee of Fifty on Keren Hayesod." Mr. Nathan
Strauss is Honorary Chairman of this committee. Other members
responsible for this statement are Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Dr. Harry
Friedenwald, Professor Horace M. Kellen, Bernard Flexner, Rabbi A.

H. Silver, Professor Felix Frankfurter, and others. Here are some
of the comments made:
The Keren Hayesod, which was chartered in London on March 23,
1921, has rights and powers whereby it can supersede the World
Zionist Organisation and its federations. This is in direct violation
the Lon-
of the constitution of the World Zionist Organization and of
don resolutions.

The Keren Hayesod is • separate corporation, independent of the
World Zionist Organization and of the Zionist Congress. It is con•
trolled by seven self••ppointed individuals, self-perpetuating through
their power to veto their successors.

Contrary to the London resolutions, the corporation is not limited
to Palestine purposes and not restricted as to the use of its fund..
It is • corporation which can carry on any business or any t lion
in "any part of the world" and expend its funds as this small group
sees fit.
This small group can surrender the upbuilding of Palestine to in•
dividu•Is or private corporations through the power "to enter into any
agreement" with "any person, corporation or company" for "any !nisi•
nem or transaction:

This small group may mortgage not only the present but all future
contributions to the Karen Hayesod and forever tie the hands of the
World Zionist Organization in upbuilding of Palestine.

Some sort of • wizard—I think it is Chief Imperial Wizard of the
Klu Klux Klan—tried to justify his organization in the North the
other day. Strange the twists that are in mental make - ups. This
gentleman is unquestionably well meaning and thinks that his organiv•
ation is • valuable asset to American life and will act as • neutralising
element in controlling the radicals of this country. But how in the
name of common sense and common justice men can advocate mob
law to right fancied wrongs in society is a contradiction in terms.
I don't like mob law, mob action, mob pyschology—it is mutiny unrea•
soning and promotes lawlessness rather than promotes law and order.
Jews and Catholics are excluded—that in itself proves the kind of
body it is—in the promotion of the welfare of society all good right
minded men and women should be enlisted in service regardless of
the church they belong to.

I like that statement of the Right Rev. Joseph Schremhs, who has
just been appointed Bishop of Cleveland by the Pope. "While my

Just read and study that statement. It is • wonderful declaration
of human principles and human principle. No, a man like Bishop
Sehrernbs would find no unkindness anywhere, because hr radiates

kindness and good will toward everyone. How different such a state-
