Organized Jan. 31, 1917, with no
elaborate program save its aim toward
mutual helpfulness and the promotion
of a broader community spirit, the
Jewish Ladies' Aid Society has grown
steadily in membership and standing
until it stands today the second
largest Jewish organization in Flint.
The society is affiliated with the Na-
tional Conference of Jewish Social
Service and has done telling work
not only for its own community but
for outside worthy causes as well.
During the work members of the
Ladies' Aid turned out hundreds of
garments for the Red Cross in the
sewing rooms of the society. It con-
tributed generously of its funds and
its service to all war-relief agencies.
Many boxes of clothing were collect-
ed by its members and forwarded to
the ravaged countries of Europe. The
last shipment of clothing was sent to
l'alestine. At the same time a gen-
erous check was forwarded to the
Palestine Relief Fund.
Local causes are ever given the
earnest co-operation of the organiza-
tion which has just pledged $500 for
the Community Center which it is
hoped will soon take tangible form.
Funds for the support of the many
causes the society sponsors are raised
by the assessment of membership
dues and through the proceeds of dif-
ferent social functions given during
the season. The annual Purim Ball
riven by the society, termed one of
the biggest social functions of the
year, is also a source of revenue, as
are other smaller entertainments and
socials.
The following officers are at pres-
ent at the head of the society: Mrs.
S. Seitner, president; Mrs. H. Leff,
vice-president; Mrs. Ben. Wiener, sec-
retary; Mrs. Robt. Kostoff, treasurer.
