Hebrew has been added to the list of subjects of instruction in the Lon-

Stanley NVolf, well-known Louisville, Ky.. attorney and prominent in
Masonic and other fraternal organizations, died at the Jewish Hospital on
tidy 21 after undergoing an operation. Mr. Wolf was graduated from the

LONDON.—Wireless information received here from Moscow states
that the congress of the "Third international" Socialists, now being held

Rabbi Joseph Ilevesh. who occupied the pulpit of the Congregation
Anshe Estes, Chicago, III., the past seven years, has resigned his position.
During his incumbency the congregation more than doubled its membership
and it was due mostly to his efforts that the handsome new community
house was built on Gary place rear Broadway.

Mr. Isidore M. Levy, hornier member of the New York City Board of
Education, will seek a Democratic designation for Supreme Court Justice
in the coining primaries. It is generally conceded that Supreme Court
Judges Platzek and Erlanger and General Sessions Justice Rosalsky will be
renominated by all parties.



Dr. Julius llochfelder, a New York attorney, has received a communica-
tion from the Secretary of NVar, Newton D. Baker, in which the Secretary
says he keenly appreciates the service rendered by Dr. liociffelder in .sug-
gesting the "University in Khaki," which Was instituted among the Expedi-
tionary Forces.


The publishing house of Louis Lamm in Berlin has just issued a com-
plete edition of the works of Zunz in seven volumes. and announces that it
is about to prepare a Hebrew edition with a German translation of
aimonitles* "Moreli Nelitichim" in three volumes. This firm also intends
to publish shortly a complete edition of the Jerusalem Talmud,



The communal elections in Berlin took place on June 20 amid great
excitement. The polling resulted in the joint Liberals and Conservatives,
headed by Dr. Max Ginsberg, receiving 8,666 votes. The Jewish National
party, headed by Dr. Alfred Klee, received 4.516 votes. Four Liberals, four
Conservatives and four Zionists were elected.



The Grand Master of Ma..011. for New York Stone has reappointed
Rabbi Elias Margolis of Mt. Vernon as a Grand Chaplain. Other appoint-
ments of those of Philip S. Seligman of Brooklyn, Grand Sword Bearer;
Edward .1. Rosenthal of New York. Grand Steward, and Mortimer B. Bern-
stein and Abraham A. Wiener of New York. district deputies.



The Jewish community of Lemberg has elected Dr. Samuel Guttman the
Grand Rabbi of the city. Eder since the death of the last Grand Rabbi, Dr.
Cairo, her years ago. this office has been vacant. The new Grand Rabbi,
Dr. Guttman, has already served twenty years as a rabbi in Lemberg and is
well known for his ability so. a speaker. Ile is a man of magnetic person-
ality and sympathetic character.
