The Ladies' Auxiliary of Shaarey
Zadelt gave an enjoyable luncheon and
nhirtainment to Its members, Mon-
day. Feb. 9, in the dining room of the
Synagogue. The 115 women who were
present with one accord assured the
committee of their pleasure at being
given the privilege of participating In
the event. During the dinner Mr.
Winckler and his talented children
rendered several Jewish songs that
were greatly enjoyed by the ladies.
Mrs. Hugo Loe•enthal, accompanied
by Mrs. Lillian L .Silver sang a few
well-chosen selections. Mr. I). W. Si-
mons, president of the congregation
and Rabbi A. M. Hershman made
addresses.
On Friday evening, February 20,
Rabbi A. M. Hershman will give the
first of two lectures on the life and
works of George Eliot, whose cen-
tennial was celebrated November 22,
1919. One lecture will be given over
exclusively to the discussion of
Daniel Deronda." Of that famed
work which evinces a profound and
intimate knowledge of the inner life
of the Jew, Prof. David Kaufman
says, ''It is a Jewish book, not only
in the sense that it treats of Jews,
hut also in the sense that it is pre-
eminently fitted for being understood
and appreciated by Jews. It contains
a gallery of portraits, giving in a
marvelously full and accurate way all
the Many sides of our complex na-
tional character." In view of the re-
cent developments bearing upon Jews
and Judaism, a discussion of this book
will prove timely and interesting.
The Friday evening services begin
promptly at 8:15 p. m. Cantor Min-
kowsky and his choir sing the Sabbath
Service; before the lecture. The pub-
lic is cordially invited to attend.

Special attention is called to the
fact that while these concerts are
given under the auspices of the Men's
Club, they are all open to the public
and each member is not only expect-
ed to purchase a ticket but also is
urged to sell at least one or two.

mins on "The Value of an Intrinsical-

mins treated his subject in an inter-
esting and instructive manner that
proved highly pleasing to his large
audience.
The Ladles Aid Society held their

Mr. Harry Orman left Monday for

On Friday evening, Feb. 20th, the
Men's Temple Club will hold its sec-
ond meeting which will be in the
nature of a Father and Sons' gather-
ing. It is hoped that all members of
the Club will arrange to reserve this
