at Brush and Woodbridge, part of which still
stands. Here valves and other fittings were
made, not only for city water systems, but also
for many of the steamships built in Detroit.
Many of the older boats running now are among
those fitted with Flower equipment.

Flower Valve Manufacturing Company

Among these things to which the world
looks to Detroit is the equipping of municipali=
ties with what is commonly called "Water
Works Supplies." For many of the largest
cities of not alone the United States, but the
whole world, are users of the various products
of the Flower Valve Manufacturing Company
of Detroit.
The products of this company are varied, as
they supply the wants of municipalities, public
service corporations, private plants and of gov=
ernments, in hydraulic supplies, fire hydrants,
gate valves, valve indicator posts, check valves,
tide valves, sluice gates and many others, the
names of which are unfamiliar except to the
hydraulic engineer.
HAS GROWN WITH DETROIT

The Flower Valve Manufacturing Company
is not a new concern. The parent company,

This plant, at Brush and Woodbridge Streets, was the first plant of James Flower
and Brothers, founded in 1852. Here the hydraulic supply business was started, and
here also many steamships were fitted out, some of which are still running with their

original "Flower" equipment.

municipal and governmental projects, the whole
energies of the company were centered on the
manufacture of hydraulic supplies.
