CONGREGATION BENE MOSHE.

The new synagogue of the Bene
Moshe Congregation, the First Hun-
garian Congregation of Detroit, will
he ready for the holding of services
on Rosh Hashnonah. Its dedication
will mark the climax of a wonderful
campaign for a house of worship by
a group who joined together for
religious worship but three years ago.
The synagogue is a beautiful struc-
ture, standing on the southwest cor-
ner of Beaubien and Garfield streets.
It is of brick construction, with orna-
mental stone trimmings, and repre-
sents an outlay of $50,000. Its main
auditorium has a seating capacity of
700. This is distributed by 400 seats
on the main floor and 300 in the bal-
cony. The building, is constructed in
the style of Gothic architecture. It is
fully equipped to serve every activity
of a modern congregation, having am-
ple facilities for school and meeting
rooms. There are two commodious
class rooms or small meeting rooms,
a morning prayer room, and a large
assembly hall for use in the holding
of celebrations and social affairs.
The synagogue is a tribute to the
architectural skill of Mr. Henry Koh-
ner, who designed the building and
contributed not only his professional
energy but much of his private time to

make the new home of the congregation
an edifice of beau.y that would be a
credit to the community. Mr. Kohmr
has been a member of the congrega-

tion from its inception and has been
one of the most active spirits in its
religious and communal activities.
He has striven to make the Bene
Moshe synagogue one of his model
pieces of work. That lie has suc-
ceeded is evident by an inspection of
the completed structure.
The main auditorium is approm'iate-
ly conducive to a, proper appreciation
of the solemnity of religious services.
It rises to a dome ornamented by
beautiful figures in plaster work. The
pew furniture and woodwork is of
oak and constructed in combination
style. The windows are of stained
glass, through which the rays of light
arc softly diffused. The altar repre-
sents the result of painstaking care
in its arrangement r d harmony with
the surroundings.
The officers of the congregation
are: President, Herman Eichner;
Vice-President, Harry Malik; Treas-
urer,- Isaac . Lieberman; Financial
Secretary, Anton Kraus; Recording
Secretary, Morris Schiff; Trustees,
Nathan Klein, Julius Hartman and
Louis Klein.
