LARGE CLASS RECEIVES RAB-
BINICAL DEGREES.

Commencement of Jewish Theological
Seminary Held in New York.

New York.—The largest number
ever graduated from the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary received degrees last
Sunday at the seminary's commence-
ment exercises in Aeolian Hall. Dr,
Cyrus Adler, Acting President of the
institution, who made an address to
the graduates, said that the class was
not only the largest but "the best
group that the seminary has sent forth
to preach and to teach Israel the
Word of God and to increase and dif-
fuse Jewish learning." Six graduates
received the degree of Rabbi and
Teacher and Preacher in • Israel,
twenty-three young men and women
were graduates from the Teachers' In-
stitute, and four Rabbis received the
degree of Doctor of Hebrew Litera-
ture. Louis Marshall also spoke.
Dr. Adler announced that the third
year men who took up religiou serv-
ice in connection with military estab-
lishments would receive their degrees
at the 1918 ommencement as though)
they had remained at the seminary;''
and that a "large proportion" of the
students of the seminary had volun-
teered to devote all or part of their
time to such work.
The war colored the graduating ex-
ercises, but did not dominate them,
all of the speakers giving most con-
sideration to the particular interests
of the seminary and American Jewry.

Israel were: Jacob Bosniak, Abra-
ham Burstein, Jacob Joseph Gittle-
man, Abraham Ephraim Halpern,

there has been a unanimous demand
for another session. This year the
