Patriotic rally, on Saturday evening,
'April 14th, at 8 o'clock, in the ball room
of the Phoenix Club, corner of John R.
and Erskine streets. The purpose of the
meeting is to aid the national and local
campaigns for membership in the Amer--
- Can Red Cross. This is a purely non-
sectarian Organization:: The .member-
ship of the 'Red Cross in Detroit is now
but 800, and .the local chapter of the
organizations 'plans ; to raise Ibis list. to
30,000. Similar • campaigns are` being
made in every city and town in the na-
tion. ;;,,'
The Red Cross is • the international
synonym for mercy and humanitarian
service. It is the one redeeming feat-
ure of warfare all over the earth, and
it is hoped that the American people will
increase the membership of the Ameri-
can Red Cross'.during the' coming week
to one million or more.
The women constituting the. executive
committee in charge of the Jewish sec-
tion of the local campaign and the rally
on Saturday night are: Mrs. Albert
Kahn, chairman; Mrs. Henry Krolik.

UNIFORM RANK TO GIVE IN-
FORMAL DANCE.
The informal dance to be given by
the Knights of •Pythias, . Detroit
Lodge, on Sunday evening, April 15th,
will be under the direction of the•Uni-
form Rank of the lodge. Prepara-
tions are under way to 'make this af-
fair the best yet given by the lodge.
The committee in charge consists of
Abe Goldman, Chairman; N. E. Ros-
enberg, Frank Berman, J. Rosenberg
and Joseph Berman. A feature of . the
evening's entertainment will be. a
series of cabaret numbers by well-
'known local entertainers, , among
'whom is Samuel Mandell. Shook's or-
chestra-will; furnish the music for' the
dance.
This is the first social; affair to be
presented by the Uniform Rank it-
self, and the event is a culmination of
its early success. The success of the
Uniform Rank .is due to the untiring
efforts of such enthusiasts as - Eman-
uel -Lewis, Captain; H. P. Cohen,
First Lieutenant, and Abe Goldman,
Second Lieutenant. •

Louis S. Simon and Miss May Gold-
man. This committee has already made
plans to open two booths for enrolling
members, at downtown points. One booth

will be located in the Henry
building and the other at the Emporium
Department Store. Both will be in
charge of Mrs. Walter Heavenrich, as
chairman. Among the many Jewish
women who will take active part in the
work are : Mesdames Joseph Gould, A:
B. Stralsler, Wilford Stern, Robert Mar-
well, Ben Rush, Sol Sallan, Alex Frieda
man, Leslie Gumm, Mellville Welt, Os-
car Rosenberger, Julian Krolik, Maurice
D. Ullman, Gerald Siegel, Maurice Gold-
enberg, Hugo Blumenthal, Sol M. Op-
penheim, Herbert Weil, Jack Lowenberg,
and the Misses Mildred Simon, Sadie
Keidan, Florence Higer, Erma Sloman,
Emma Butzel, Judith Ginsberg, Julia
Wein, Zelda and Fannie Smith.
Mrs. Henry A. Krolik will preside at
the Saturday night meeting. The speak-
ers will be Mrs. David Scheyer, Mrs.
Henry Fecheimer, Hon. Charles C.
Simon, and others. These well known
men and women will show what the
women who stay at home can do to help
their country, and will include talks on
Base Hospitals and kindred topics. The
committee in charge desires every pat-
riotic Jewish woman of . Detroit to at-
tend this meeting. .

solved, That Universal Military Training
Be Adopted." The affirmative and nega-
tive sides were each upheld by six mem-
bers, being chosen respectively by the
captains, E. Rothman and M. Goldstick.
Six regular members of the organization
and a visiting honorary, Mr. Lawrence
Seltzer, acted as judges. They awarded
the decision to the affirmative by a vote
of four to three, showing that the debate
• was well-balanced.
