MRS. FRANCIS HELLIN VISITS
DETROIT IN BEHALF OF
DENVER SANITARIUM.
Is Enthusiastic About Generosity of
Detroit Jews.
One of the guests of Detroit dur-
ing the week is Mrs. Francis Hellin,
field secretary of the Jewish Consump-
tives' Relief Society of Denver, Colo.,
who has come here in behalf of that
institution.
Mrs. Heflin speaks very highly of
the° generosity of Detroiters. "It is
a pleasure for me to come to your
city,"bs'ie said to a Jewish Chronicle
representative, "I am treated so
royally and the Jewish people here
are so splendidly liberal in support-
ing the Denver sanitarium. Last'year
the contribution of Detroit Jews to
the fight we are waging against the
dread white plague was over $2,300.
From the generous reception with
which I have been greeted, especially
by the younger set, Detroit will go
far above that figure this year."
The Jewish Consumptives' Relief
Society is one of the largest institu-
war against tuberculosis. Recently,
the sanitarium pledged the sum of
$5,000 a year to carry on welfare work
among the dozens of inmates of the
institution after they have been re-
leased from the sanitarium. Many
prominent Detroiters are very actively
identified with the work of the so-
ciety, the local national directors be-
ing David W. Simons, M. Kaufman,
Rabbi A. M. Hershman, David Gold-
man, D. Robinson, I. Kaplan and Da-
vid Oppenheimer.
