On another page of this paper
will be found the announcement of
a whirlwind campaign which l'he
Jewish Chronicle is conducting for
the next few weeks.
\Ve will pay a commission to all
who secure subscriptions, and to
t h ose wh o d o the b est work we w ill
give handsome gold prizes : $500.00
as first prize, $200.00 second prize,
and' sixteen other smaller gold
prizes as well as commissions.
Nominations.
Every reader of The Chronicle is
asked to send in the name of at least
one person who would be willing to
try to win one of these gold prizes.
The nomination blank will be found
on another page.
The Vote Schedule
The vote schedule will be pub-
lished in each issue and the plan is
to decrease the schedule from time

to time. More votes will be given
during this coming week than at
any time, so it will pay those who
intend to enter their names to do so
at once. You are invited to call the
campaign manager at any time be-
tween 9 a. in. and 8 p. m. and he
will be glad to answer any questions
you may wish to ask.
Rules.
The campaign is open to Jewish
candidates only.
The Campaign Manager reserves
the right to reject any nominations.
Votes will be issued only on paid
subscriptions - to The Jewish Chron-
icle.

when neatly cut out, name filled in,
and brought or mailed to the Cam-
paign Department, will count as

votes toward the 'winning of the
prizes.
Candidates may nominate them-
selves or may be nominated by their
friends.
No employe or member of em-
ploye's family of The Jewish
Chronicle can enter the campaign.
All special ballot votes issued on
subscriptions are good until the end
of the campaign, and they may be
voted at the discretion of the candi-
date or subscriber.
Votes are not transferable.
Votes will be allowed on sub-
scriptions secured anywhere in the
United States and Canada.
The votes will be counted in pub-
lic and canvassed by a committee of
prominent citizens.
In case of a tie, any prize or
prizes tied for will be awarded one
to each of the candidates tieing.
The Jewish Chronicle reserves
the right to correct mistakes or to
change the plan of or make any ad-
dition to the above conditions that

The widow of I lerr - Emil Rath-
anau has presented 200,000 marks
to the University of Berlin to es-
tablish a trust which will bear his
name.
The Russkoe Znanlya continues
to conduct a ritual libel campaign.
It announces almost daily the al-
leged loss of Christian children.
The death is announced of Her-
mann Senigaglia, professor •at the
technical high school, at Udine,
Italy, who was killed in action.
Though only twenty-seven years
old, he had already given proof of
unusual talent, and had published
essays on his subject, which were
favorably received.
At a meeting of the Congrega-
tion Shaarei Torah, of Portland,
Ore., Rev. Joseph Baer Faiwisho-
vich, lately arrived in this country
from Alinsk, Russia, was elected as
rabbi.
Constable Joseph De Young of
the Third ward has performed the
duties of his office in an efficient
manner and deserves re-election.
