Valentines Pack Real Romantic allop

Drip With
LOve And Cupid
But They Go Over Big With Some
Of The Babes; Here Are A Few
Suggestions Gratis
St. Valentine's Day, dedicated to com-'
niercialized sentimentality, is again up-
on us. Reminiscent indeed of the Mauve
era are the. gaudy lace paper missives
the manufacturers have been dishing
out at this time every year for as long
as anyong can remember. In our can-
did opinion, however, the copy-the boys
are getting out is beginning to be a little
stale. After all, what does a message
likee "To my Valentine" mean.. these
days? Or a stock verse like
"I need not send a Velentine
To tell you what you know,
But Valentine, this one is here;
Because I love you-so"
Whet the valentine trade needs, we.
feel, is something new and startlingly
different, something that will get ato-
tention like nobody's business, andfor
that reason we offer the following, sug-
gestions for what valentines ought to
be like. They are to be known as the
Michigan Daily Valentine Day Greet-
ings:'
Greeting No. 1: Hello,
for that
Touching Gesture

That's all we've thought of so far, but
we feel this has possibilities. Direct and
to the point, if nothing else. Avoids all
the maudlin nonsense that usually gets'
into these messages. Doesn't commit
you to a thing., In fact, it's just a nice
friendly greeting, suitable for anyone
from J;our sweetheart to the Dean's
Committee.
As for material, we suggest that the
greeting be written on a piece of fly-
paper,. so the message will stick. Or
you could just call up and recite it; it's
easy to memorize.
However, for a really big idea, the
Daily crashes through with the Com-
posite Valentine's Day Greeting. All
you do is cross out the line you don't
want to use. In crossing out lines, we
feel you really can't go too far.
First line:
1. Greetings to my Valentine,
2. To you, my Valentine,
3. The boys stood on the burning
deck,
4. My heart is all a-flutter.
Second line:
1. From one who loves you so,
2. Cupid with his bow and arrow,
3. To you, my Valentine,
4. Let's have another ale.
Third line:
1. The love my lips would utter,
2. To you, my Valentine,
3. Goodbye Broadway, hello France,

4. Love sends a little gift of flowers.
Fourth line:
1. Because I love you so.
2. Because I think you're o.k.
3. Because you're my Valentine.
4. Just for the h- of it.
The telegraph companies have been
getting out some nifty greetings which
can be wired anywhere for 25 cents.
Prize sample or this year's lot is the old
favorite:
"At miles between us we can laugh,
our hearts entwined by telegraph."
There are some other catchy num-
bers though. For example,
"With a dash, a dot and then a stop,
insert three words of mine, Please name
the date, the hour, the spot, and be my
Valentine."
Another honey embodying the same
general idea is this: "Wire back, this
address, send collect, one word, YES."
One we might suggest to round out
the telegraph companies' array would
run:
"Roses-are red, the stars are shining
bright, I'll gladly marry you Tuesday,
for a honeymoon tonight."

Cutters Ahoy
For those who have imported dates
and are wondering what to do for the
rest of the week-end after the little
woman has been shown the town six
times, cutter riding provides a novel
and inexpensive way to pass a few hours
-if we have a white week-end:
Mullison's Riding Academy is restt
ing two-person cutters for $2 for two
hours. They afford a great opportunity
to tour out Washtenaw way while dem
onstrating your ability to manipulate
the contraptions, and point out the big
houses.
Four-people - cutters with two teams'
and a driver are also available at $4 for
2 hours; and if 'you feel enterprising
enough to organize a sleighing party,
large sleds for 20 can be had for $8.for
two hours. Driver and horses are furnf
ished free'of charge. If the weather man
fails to provide -snow the Academy plans
to have a hay rick available.
University officials announced last
night that special permits would not .Z
required.
