I WILL Discuss PLANS FOR FARM EMPLOYMENT LITERARY FACULTY MAY TAKE ACTION AT MEETING MONDAY Following his attendance at a meet- ing held in Lansing, Mich., Thursday, to discuss means of increasing the general food supply, Prof. William H. Hobbs, local chairman of the National Security league, announces that defi- nite plans are under way for the es- tablishment of a clearing house be- tween farmers and students who wish to do farm work rather than military duty. A discussion of these plans and other war matters will be taken up at a meeting of the literary faculty to be held at 8 o'clock Monday evening, April 23. Realizing that service in the fields which produce food for soldier or citi- zen ranks in importance with service on the battlefield, the government is fostering every conceivable plan to increase food production. Its first free employment bureau was recently established in Chicago by the depart- ment of labor.hThe object ofthis of- fice is to get the man to the Job as quickly. as possible without expense. Y., April 21.-Cornell's faculty has taken steps toward putting the university in a position to co-op,? erate with the government as much as possible. Farm workers are to be granted extra privileges, and a prem- ium is put on extensive military train- ing. Resolutions were passed by the fac- ulty at a meeting Wednesday enlarg- ing the scope of planstadopted in March to allow -students to enlist. At that time it was decided to allow all students enlisting in the military ser- vice of the country to receive leave of absence during the time away without prejudice as to residence, scholastic standing, or degrees. The system is now made to apply to all taking up positions on farms, and also to those taking military train- ing at Cornell itself. Each student's individual case will be considered by those in charge, and he will be grant- ed such respite from studies, either part time or entire, as his work for the government's benefit demands.
