Hutchins has been appointed chief of the staff corps of the local branch of the intercol- legiate intelligence bureau by the exe- cutive committee of the local organ- Iization. The other corps chiefs which were appointed are: Deans Victor C. Vaughan of the Medical school, Henry M. Bates of the Law school, Dean John R. Effinger of the literary college, Prof. S. Lawrence Bigelow of the chemical department, Prof. I. Leo Sharfman of the economics depart- ment, Prof. Philip Bursley of the French department, Mr. Lyman Bry- son ofstherhetoric department, and Professors Lewis M. Gram and Joseph A. Bursley of the engineering depart- ment. Chiefs of the smaller divisions will be appointed soon. Corps chiefs held a meeting yesterday afternoon for the purpose of perfecting an internal or- ganization. Frank M. Altogether about 3,000 University of Michigan men have served the country in its last three combats. More than that number are now drilling on the campus, and from indications more than that number will come to the aid of the government when it issues a call for them. 100 ON OPERA TOUR Take Sp ecial Train in Detroit for Rest of Trip The complete list of cast, chorus, orchestra, and committeemen who will make the opera trip was posted last night on the Union bulletin board. One hundred men in all will leave Ann Arbor at 9:35 o'clock Monday morning for Detroit. A special train will be made up in Detroit and will be used -for the rest of the trip. A book of instructions is now being prepared and will be given the men on boarding the train. It will contain an itinery of the trip and all the other information neces- sary. ANN ARBOR RIFLE CLUB SEEKS NEW )IEMBERS; TO ENROLL 150 About 70 more members are desired by the Ann Arbor Rifle club, branch of the National Rifle Association of America, in order to increase the en- rollment to 150. This is a non-mili- tary organization, though military training will be afforded the members. No obligation to the government is in- curred by joining. As soon as the de- sired number of members is obtained an order for rifles will be sent into Washington.{ The indoor range in the Armory and the outdoor range on Packard street have been secured for practice H. I., April 5.-Rules for absence from drill have been drawn up by the faculty committee on mili- tary training because excessive ab- sences have held back the progress of the drill. Hereafter there will be no excused absences, and explanations for ab- sence must be presented in writing. Attendance at the military lectures is not taken, but each member is on his honor to report his absences to, the platoon leader.
