With the advent of the basketball interscholas- tic the Varsity diamond hopefuls are forced to evacuate the gym for a day and the pitchers and catchers are ordered to work outside. The men will work just outside the gymnasium, while those other than battery candidates are not expected to report during the day at all. Tomor- row, however, the coach expects to hold batting practice for the whole squad and every man is expected to be on 'hand. Regular infield practice has- been conducted all week, the candidates working in shifts. Captain Brandell has been working regularly at short stop, and will doubtless play that pos- ition when the season officially opens. 1Iorwitz has been looking good at third, while both Newell and Birming- ham have been doing excellent work around first. The squad is apparently down to the stage when batting abil- ity will be the deciding factor in choosing the personnel of the team. Far from being on the hospital list, Morrie Dunne reported for prac- tice Tuesday and was working yester- day. Patronize Daily Advertisers.
