$500 Fund Donated for Women in So-
cial Service Work
The Association of Collegiate Alum
nae has announced a fellowship of
$500 available for the academic year
1917-1918, the gift of Gamma Phi Beta
sorority. It is provided that the fel-
lowship shall be devoted to prepara-
tion for the profession of social ser-
vice, and is open to any woman grad-
uate of a college of recognized rank
who has done at least one year of
graduate work. Some of her courses
must also have been in the department
of social science.
The fellowship is expected to pre-
pare for social service work in a school
whose standing is equal to that of the
New York School of Philanthropy. Ap-
plications must be made to the chair-
man of the Association of Collegiate
Alumnae committee on fellowships be-
fore April 1. They must be accom-
panied by testimonials of health, char-
acter, and scholarship, together with
an account of previous educational
training and a definite statement of the
plan of study and the object in view.

I Cleveland, March 10.-Presidents of
the four railroad brotherhoods an-
nounced tonight that with railroad
conditions worse than when the Adam-
son law was enacted, they intended to
press at once for an immediate estab-
lishment of the eight-hour day with
a national strike as an alternative.
In the same breath they announced
that assurance has already been given
President Wilson that in the event of
a national strike, coincident with war,
the brotherhoods would co-operate
with the government in every way,
supplying crews to move troops, equip-
ment, and supplies. These announce-
ments came unexpectedly tonight fol-
lowing a secret meeting of 400 chai'-'
men of the brotherhoods here.

Dr. Weyforth to Lecture on Economics
Dr. William O.. Weyforth, of Western
Reserve university, Cleveland, Ohio,
will lecture before the economics de-
partment tomorrow on the subject,
"The Relation of the Unskilled Work-
man of Trade Unions." Having been
unable to get in touch with Dr. Wey-
forth, thc department is still uncer-
tain as to the hour and place of the
lecture, but announcement will be
made in the classes and on the econ-
omics bulletin board.
Dr. Iden Addresses Upper Room Class
Dr. Thomas M. Iden of the Upper
Room Bible class addressed the meet-
ing last night on the subject "Our Re-
lation to Jesus and Mother." Next
